The most problematic behaviors that we see in children is oftentimes their way of communicating that they are overwhelmed, scared or stressed. This 1.5 hour CE course will help Social Workers identify behaviors from each developmental level to avoid labeling behaviors as angry, aggressive, oppositional or disrespectful. We will explore appropriate child development from 4 domains, physical, language and cognition, social-emotional and genital/sexual behavior.

Course Objectives:

After attending this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify child developmental milestones from ages 18 months to 18 years, noting key red flags and triggers at each developmental stage

• Describe developmental milestones and benchmarks for 'normal' physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and sexual functioning at every stage of development

• Appropriately explain problem behaviors in the context of trauma, understanding when to refer a child for Mental Health Services
